Each day more creators are sharing their experiences and creations through social media, and the possibilities for showcasing their work are vast: there are platforms for long and short videos, images, drawings, pictures, text and much more.

This diverse offering of platforms allows you to create content in ways that were unimaginable in the past, but can also confuse those who are seeking to start a career in the social media business. How can you choose the best platform for your content? Is it possible to make this activity a full time job? Here are some tips to help you reach the full potential of your social networks, start a career as a content creator and make money out of it!

1. Understand your strengths and expand your content: for starters, the first thing you should define is what kind of content you’d like to create. Would that be photos, videos, or both? Once you figure out what you want to communicate, it’s easier to choose the best platform for your content.

If you’re into photography, writing beautiful texts for your photos or posting selfies, you should try Instagram; but if you’d like to share stories through short videos, you should focus on platforms such as TikTok and Kwai. Once you’ve started to grow in your main social network, you can start creating more diverse content for different platforms.

Hot tip: once you define the username for your main platform, create accounts in all other platforms using the same name to avoid that someone else takes it!

2. Grow your followers community: connecting with your followers is key to growing in social media. To be in contact and interacting with them on a daily basis makes them feel close to you! Reply to their comments, take their content suggestions and make opportunities for interaction. It’s also important to interact with other content creators; after all, they are your colleagues. You can follow creators you like, leave comments and like their posts and even propose to collab together. It’s important to focus mainly on one platform so you can grow faster, and then invite your community to follow you on other social networks. Hot tip: offer your followers different content on each platform; if you post the same content on TikTok and Instagram reels, for example, your fans are less likely to follow you on both platforms, since they’ve already seen this content before.

3. Monetize: this is the ultimate objective of all content creators: to have the opportunity of monetizing the content that takes them such hard work to produce. There are different ways to do that.

The most effective one is to work with platforms that allow you to monetize the views you get on your videos or pictures. Have in mind that not all platforms offer the same monetization options in different countries. For creators in Latin America, for example, the Kwai app offers a monetization program with interesting rates and bonus opportunities according to views and fanbase.

Another possibility for making money with content creation is to work with an influencer marketing agency that serves as a mediator between you and different brands worldwide seeking influencers for marketing campaigns. The agency does all the negotiation work with the clients and offers you campaigns that align with the content you make.
